Kenneth Neal Allen, 36, appeared in court in an orange jumpsuit and handcuffs.  He is charged with three counts of first degree statutory sodomy and possession of child pornography.  Allen pleaded not guilty and waived his formal arraignment.

His preliminary hearing is set for June 20 at 10 a.m. No bond has been set, but bond should be set at the preliminary hearing in June.

2 men shot in Charleston

CHARLESTON, MO (KFVS)- Two people were injured in a shooting in Charleston Monday morning.

Charleston Police say it happened about 10:30 a.m. near Vine Street and Lee Street.

Eric Dowell, 31 and Dwight Robinson, 56, both sustained gunshot wounds and were transported to area medical facilities for treatment.

Police say an initial investigation indicates that someone was shooting at Eric Dowell, and that Robinson was struck by a stray bullet.

Police did not say where the victims were shot, but witnesses and a Williams Funeral Home employee says one person was shot in the back of the head and ran to the funeral home about a block away from the scene for help.

Police Chief Robert Hearnes said this appears to be related to other shooting calls they have recently received, but the victim is not cooperating, and no witnesses have come forth.

No arrests have been made.

Farmers dealing with drought

MISSISSIPPI COUNTY, MO (KFVS)- It's been an unbelievably dry spring in the Heartland, and it's taking a toll on farmers.

Compared to this time last year, the area has received 17 fewer inches of rain, leaving many fields without crops.

It's too dry in some fields to plant soybeans.

Luckily, some fields have gotten enough rain for crops to grow, but local agriculture experts say the dry spell has farmers worried, especially for those who plant corn.

"We're entering that rapid elongation period for corn, so that water demand is really starting to peak," said University of Missouri Extension agronomist Anthony Ohmes.

Ironically, Ohmes also said most of the farmland in the Birds Point floodway will be in good shape after the land gets a little more rain.
