Mo. back to school sales tax holiday

MISSISSIPPI COUNTY, MO (KFVS) - The Missouri back to school sales tax holiday will start at 12:01 a.m. on Friday, August 5 and continue through Sunday, August 7.

Certain purchases like clothing, school supplies and computers will be exempt from sales tax for the three days.

Some cities have opted out of the tax holiday. You can find a complete list of those cities here.

Rte. Y reduced for patching

Rte. Y reduced for patching

MISSISSIPPI COUNTY, MO (KFVS) - Route Y will be reduced to one lane while MoDOT crews work to patch the road.

The road will be reduced between US 60/62 and Route K.

Weather permitting, crews will be working Wednesday, August 3 and Thursday, August 4 from 6:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily.

MISSOURI (KFVS) - The American Red Cross is still looking for blood donors.

The following blood drives will be in August in several areas around Southeast Missouri.

Upcoming blood drives include:

  • Aug. 1 - Perry Co. Memorial Hospital, 343 North West Street in Perryville, Mo. from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
  • Aug. 1 - Oak Tree Inn, 1608 U.S. 60 Business West in Dexter, Mo. from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Aug. 1 - Delta Community Center, 211 Rear State Street , P.O. Box 12 in Delta, Mo. from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Aug. 2 - First General Baptist Church, 1506 South Farmington Road in Jackson, Mo. from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.
  • Aug. 3 - Church of Christ, 310 North Shawnee in Jackson, Mo. from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.
  • Aug. 4 - Dexter Church of Christ, 1014 North One Mile Road in Dexter, Mo. from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.

FEMA deadline extended for individual assistance in Mo.

The deadline to apply for individual disaster assistance for Missouri residents has been extended.

At the request of Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has extended the deadline for renters, homeowners and business owners who suffered damage from the severe storms, tornadoes and flooding to register for state and federal disaster assistance.

The new deadline is Aug. 26, 2011, according to FEMAs joint field office in Columbia, Mo.

"If you had damage, you must register with FEMA by Aug. 26, 2011. Don't prejudge your situation or feel that you may be taking something away from your neighbor," said Federal Coordinating Officer Libby Turner.  "We want to make every effort to reach all Missourians and ensure that they receive assistance for eligible losses."

Police find drugs in home after child abuse hotline call

SIKESTON, MO (KFVS) - Police have arrested 3 people after finding marijuana and meth in a Sikeston home following authorities investigating a child abuse hotline call. 

According to Sgt. Jim McMillen with Sikeston DPS, 26-year-old Stephen Beedle of Sikeston and 22-year-old Kimberly Beedle of Sikeston were both charged with 2 counts of possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute, endangering the welfare of a child 1st degree and possession of drug paraphernalia. The couple each received a $50,000 cash or surety bond through Scott County Court.

21-year-old Jerry Rosson, Jr. of Charleston was charged with 2 counts of possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute and possession of drug paraphernalia. Rosson received a $25,000 cash only bond through Scott County Court.

Rte. 105 reduced for water line repairs

MISSISSIPPI COUNTY, MO (KFVS) - Route 105 or North Main will be down to one lane while the city of Charleston makes repairs to the water lines.

The repairs will be on Iron Bank Street and Route 105.

Weather permitting, crews will be working Thursday, July 28 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
