MoDOT reports roads closed due to flooding

MISSISSIPPI COUNTY, MO (KFVS) - The Missouri Department of Transportation has closed roads because of recent flooding.

As of 9 a.m. on Friday, the following roads in Mississippi County were closed:

  • Route 62 from the I-57 levee
  • Route 77 at the Mississippi River
  • Route 77 from Route Y to Route A
  • Route 80 from the Mississippi River to CRD 522
  • Route 102 from Route 80 to Route 77
  • Route A from Route 102 to Route 77
  • Route AA from Route 80 to Route 77
  • Route BB from Route 80 to Route P - local traffic only
  • Route DD from Route 75 to Route 77
  • Route F beginning at Route 77
  • Route FF
  • Route HH
  • Route OO from Route BB to end of state maintenance
  • Route TT
  • Route VV
  • Route YY from Route 102 to FF

A.J. Martin Elementary teacher retires

A.J. Martin Elementary teacher retires

MISSISSIPPI COUNTY, MO (KFVS) - A math teacher at A.J. Martin Elementary is retiring from the East Prairie R-II School District after 31 years of teaching.

Shirley Hall began her career by teaching remedial reading at R.A. Doyle Elementary. After a break from teaching, Hall returned seven years later to teach math at A.J. Martin and stayed for the rest of her career.

In 2006, Hall became the Curriculum Coordinator for the school district. She has devoted most of her life to teaching and she will be greatly missed by the entire staff.

MISSOURI (KFVS) - Ameren Missouri reports several power outages across the state after Wednesday night's storms.

As of 3:40 p.m. Ameren Mo. reports the following customers in Heartland counties without power:

  • Cape Girardeau Co. - 102 customers
  • Mississippi Co. - 2 customers

R.A. Doyle Elementary showed they have talent

R.A. Doyle Elementary showed they have talent

EAST PRAIRIE, MO (KFVS) - Students at R.A. Doyle Elementary participated in the talent show recently.

Under the elementary music teacher, Montey James, students in the second grade performed in the annual show on May 12.

Some of the performers dancing, twirling and singing included: Evan Howell, Peyton Adams, Blakelee Childers, Lilly Matheney, Lela Moore and Drew Irby.

M.D.A. raises almost $20,000 for disaster areas

MISSISSIPPI COUNTY, MO (KFVS) - The Missouri Department of Agriculture announced Thursday that they raised almost $20,000 in 24 hours for people affected by the recent disasters in southern Missouri.

Staff members of the department led a donation drive for the Food Bank of Central Missouri that included a challenge to other state agencies, community organizations and agriculture industries groups.

“Our hearts and prayers certainly go out to all of those affected by the tornadoes and severe storms in Joplin and to those trying to get back on their feet following flooding throughout the southern portion of our state,” said Director of Agriculture Dr.

Funeral arrangements, fund set for 5-year-old hit by truck

A 5-year-old girl was hit and killed Sunday night when she stepped in front of a truck according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

According to the patrol, Maddison Hart, 5, of Sikeston was in a ditch in tall grass on the shoulder of County Road 326 five miles south of Charleston when she stepped out of the ditch into the path of the truck.

The truck, a 2011 Ford F150, was driven by David Sutton, 20, of East Prairie.

Hart was taken to Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston where she died at 6:30 p.m.

Hart's visitation will be 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, May 28 with the funeral at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Charleston.

According to a family member, a fund has been set of at Focus Bank for Maddison Hart.  Locations include Charleston, East Prairie and Sikeston.
