CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) - The Southeast Missouri Food Bank is part of a national movement to raise awareness and take action to help the 64,000 Southeast Missourians experiencing hunger monthly.
According to the SEMO Food Bank, September is Hunger Action Month. Throughout the month, Feeding America's nationwide network of more than 200 food banks, including Southeast Missouri Food Bank, is working to engage citizens to take action and help spread the word about how pervasive hunger is in every community.
The SEMO Food Bank is participating in many ways, including spreading the word with celebrity partners via a video campaign that tells stories of Americans struggling with hunger; and the 30 Ways in 30 Days campaign to provide individuals with exciting ways to participate in their community throughout September.
Throughout September, the Food Bank says there will be opportunities to get involved. The opportunities will range from social media initiatives to events, family activity suggestions such as Party for Good (volunteer event), Kids Count for Hunger (a kid's day at the Food Bank) and ways to volunteer such as food drives.
For those who want to help spread the word and share the Food Bank's celebrity video with friends or to view the 30 Ways in 30 Days calendar, visit the Hunger Action Month website. For more information, you can e-mail kcanter@feedingamerica.org.
