Dexter man arrested for DWI, assault during traffic stop | Crime
MISSISSIPPI COUNTY, MO (KFVS) - Mississippi County Sheriff Keith Moore says a Dexter man has been arrested after a weekend traffic stop.
Markus Marion Lohnert, 39, was charged with driving while intoxicated with additional charges of second degree assault on a law enforcement officer, resisting arrest by fleeing in a motor vehicle and tampering with physical evidence. His bond was set at $50,000.
According to Moore, the investigation began last Saturday night, September 21, when a deputy stopped by the Casey's General Store in East Prairie. As the deputy waited in line, Moore said Lohnert drove up to the store, went in and bought a 32 oz. can of beer.
When he left the store, the deputy said he noticed an open 32 oz. can of beer sitting in the center console of Lohnert's vehicle.
When Lohnert walked out of the store, the deputy told him he was a deputy sheriff and asked him to get out of his vehicle. The deputy said Lohnert refused, backed out and threw a beer can from the vehicle as he turned onto Highway 80.
The deputy then turned on his lights and sirens, and Lohnert stopped his vehicle in the McDonald's Grocery Store parking lot.
According to the sheriff, Lohnert turned away as the deputy approached the vehicle, and according to the deputy's report, Lohnert appeard to be reaching under the passenger seat.
The deputy opened the driver's side door and told Lohnert to get out of the vehicle, but he refused. At that point, the deputy removed Lohnert from his vehicle and arreted him.
As he was being handcuffed, the deputy said Lohnert became combative and hit the deputy, and then in an apparent attempt to avoid arrest, Lohnert jerked away and tried to walk off.
In responde, the deputy brought the man to the ground and after a brief struggle, Lohnert was arrested.
When they arrived at the Mississippi County Detention Center, a deputy administered a breathalyzer test, which revealed Lohnert had a blood alcohol content of 0.193, more than twice the legal limit to drive a motor vehicle in the state of Missouri.
