Ameren companies monitoring, preparing for Hurricane Issac | News

(KFVS) - Ameren companies say they are  tracking the path of Hurricane Isaac and are taking precautionary steps to make they have a timely response in case remnants of the storm make its way to their area.

“Every weather event is different and unpredictable,” said Warner Baxter, president and CEO, Ameren Missouri. “That is why we are proactively taking several measures now to better prepare our customers and co-workers to safely address the potential challenges resulting from this storm.”

“The Illinois Emergency Operations Center team is always actively monitoring weather conditions,” said Richard Mark, president and CEO, Ameren Illinois. “As we learn more about how the remnants of Hurricane Isaac may impact our service territory, we will plan our response accordingly.”

Ameren says Hurricane Isaac’s projected path is predicted to move through Southern Missouri by Friday and into Southern and Central Illinois by Saturday.

They say the last time remnants of a hurricane made its way into Ameren’s service territory was Hurricane Ike in September 2008. Customers are encouraged to create or update a storm kit in preparation of any future storm. Storm kit tips can be found on Ameren.com.

Ameren reminds customers that safety is the first and foremost concern after any storm.

According to Ameren, the most important safety rule is to stay clear of downed power lines and always call Ameren Missouri at 800.552.7583, Ameren Illinois at 800.755.5000, or 9-1-1 if you see downed lines. They say to:

• Assume all downed power lines are energized
• Stay inside, especially at night because you may walk into an energized power line
• Stay clear of brush, shrubs and trees that may hide downed lines
