CHARLESTON, MO (KFVS)- Two inmates were found in a manhole Monday as they were trying to escape from the Southeast Correctional Center in Charleston.
The two inmates were found around 9:23 a.m. by staff in a manhole inside the secure perimeter of the institution, according to Chris Cline, director of communications with the Missouri Department of Corrections.
Cline says an employee was overtaken and alerted other staff to the situation which led to the two offenders.
The employee was not injured.
The attempted escape did not present a danger to the public as the offenders never got outside the secure perimeter of the institutions.
The incident is under investigation.
