'Rural Missouri' magazine announces annual Readers' Choice awards

'Rural Missouri' magazine announces annual Readers' Choice awards

(KFVS) - For the 12th consecutive year, the readers of "Rural Missouri" magazine have selected their statewide favorites in the publication's annual Best of Rural Missouri Readers' Choice Contest.

Last year, readers overwhelmingly approved the return of a statewide format for the contest that asks them to name their favorite eateries, destinations and activities. For this year's edition of the contest, the format remained the same. "Rural Missouri's" editors had the task of tabulating entries from readers who offered their picks in 20 categories, ranging from "Best Restaurant" and "Best Burger" to "Best Small-town Museum" and "Best Theater." A winner, runner-up and editor's choice were named in each category.

Charleston man arrested on multiple charges

Charleston man arrested on multiple charges

CHARLESTON, MO (KFVS) - Scott County Sheriff Rick Walter said a Charleston man is in custody after an encounter with deputies at a local business.

Glenn Hartwick Jr., 22, was charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm, unlawful use of a weapon, resisting arrest, assault on a law enforcement officer and possession of marijuana.

Deputies say they noticed Hartwick acting in a suspicious manner as he was leaving a local nightclub early Sunday morning. When they approached Hartwick, they say he ran away from a vehicle that he had been kneeling behind.

When they searched the area where Hartwick had been seen, deputies say they found a loaded handgun hidden under the rear bumper of the vehicle. They say Hartwick then tried to leave the area in another vehicle as officers attempted to take him into custody.
