Hearnes student poems to be published

Hearnes student poems to be published

EAST PRAIRIE, MO (KFVS) - Thirteen students at Warren E. Hearnes were chosen to be published in the 2013 edition of the "Young American Poetry Digest," sponsored by the National Schools Project.

Students of all ages submitted poetry to this national project, and a panel of educators evaluated the overall quality of the poems based on student's age and grade level. They also took into consideration: creativity, age-appropriate language, sensory and figurative images, structure, and poetic techniques.

A copy of the published book will be available at the WEH library when it is released in the fall.

The students' participation in the national contest was made possible by Jayna Holley (4th Grade) and Michelle Anthuis (Librarian). Not pictured: Carla Kelley (5th Grade).

Mother, daughter win $250,000 in Mega Millions

EAST PRAIRIE, MO (KFVS) -  A mother and daughter, who have been playing the Missouri Lottery for years as "partners," claimed a $250,000 prize from the Feb. 19 Mega Millions drawing.

Odessa Chanley, 62, of East Prairie and Tina Wrzesinski, 44, of Overland, will each take half of the $250,000 prize.

Chanley bought the winning Quick Pick ticket at Gas-A-Mat, 613 E. Washington St., in East Prairie.

Gas-A-Mat received a $1,000 bonus for selling the winning ticket.

"We've been playing the Lottery forever," explained Wrzensinski in a press release from the Missouri Lottery. "We just go partners."

"She got married about six years ago," added Chanley. "I told her to explain to her husband how we are Lottery partners. I buy down here, and she buys up in St. Louis. That way we have more chances."

"I'm going to pay off some bills," said Wrzesinski. "Actually, that makes me feel really good."
