Food Bank asks for help before losing tax credits

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) - Southeast Missouri Food Bank officials say without help, they will lose their tax credits at the end of March.

According to the food bank, they have $154,000 in tax credits that must be used or the charity will lose funding.

Officials say donors can get a Missouri income tax cut for 50-percent of the value of their donation, and other tax benefits may apply based on the actual tax liability of the donor.

The funds are expected to be used to expand a warehouse facility.

"This is a great opportunity for eligible donors to direct their tax dollars locally instead of writing that check to the state, we just need their donation by the March 31st deadline," said Karen Green, Executive Director, Southeast Missouri Food Bank.

Donors eligible to take part in the NAP credit program include:

Missouri traffic deaths on the rise after 6-year decline

Missouri traffic deaths on the rise after 6-year decline

(KFVS) - After six years of decline, the Missouri State Highway Patrol says traffic deaths are on the rise.

The highway patrol would like drivers to be more aware of the importance of paying attention and obeying traffic laws when driving.

Missouri has experienced a decline in traffic deaths over the past six years, but the first six months of 2012 have had a higher rate of traffic deaths than expected. When comparing the same time period last year to this year, Missouri has experienced an increase of 62 traffic deaths.

Reports show over two-thirds of deadly crashes involved people not wearing seatbelts. A common contributing factor in crashes was failure to remain in the correct lane.

Colonel Ron Replogle, superintendent of the Missouri Highway Patrol, stresses that drivers give their full attention to driving, follow traffic laws and always wear a seatbelt.
