Hearnes students visit incentive store | Schools
Title (Max 100 Characters)
CHARLESTON, MO (KFVS) - An incentive store is helping to motivate and encourage students at Hearnes Elementary.
Students in grades K-5 can earn incentive points, called "Brock Bucks" (named after Hearnes principal, Tammy Brock). These Brock Bucks are rewarded for good attendance, behavior, citizenship, and honor roll. They are also given a buck for every Accelerated Reading (A.R.) point they earn by reading books and testing.
Once a quarter, "The Brock Buck Store" is managed by Mr. B.J. Babb, the school's parent liaison. An area is set up like a store, with items that range from $1 to $100. The students spend their hard-earned bucks on things like pencils, toys, books, and candy. There are also special passes they can buy, giving them privelages like "extra recess."
The higher-priced items give students a goal to work toward. The more positive their actions are, the more bucks they can earn. This program somewhat mirrors the school's discipline program, which rewards negative behavior with undesirable results.
The school would like to thank Tammy Brock, Lisa Karnes, Glenda Medlock, and Michelle Anthuis for contributing to the "Brock Buck Store."
