Report cards to go out March 14 at East Prairie R-2 School Dist.

EAST PRAIRIE, MO (KFVS) - The East Prairie R-2 School District says report cards will be sent home Thursday, March 14.

That day is also a half-day with teachers in-service.

525 Heartland students to compete in National History Day regional contest

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) - About 525 area junior high and high school students are expected to compete in the National History Day in Missouri regional contest March 15 at Southeast Missouri State University.

Students from Bollinger, Butler, Cape Girardeau, Carter, Dunklin, Iron, Madison, Mississippi, New Madrid, Pemiscot, Perry, Reynolds, Ripley, Scott, St. Francois, Ste. Genevieve, Stoddard, Washington and Wayne counties will compete for the chance to advance to the state National History Day competition at the University of Missouri April 20.

Charleston kindergarten to hold enrollment at Hearnes Elementary

CHARLESTON, MO (KFVS) - Charleston R-1 School District will hold its annual enrollment event for children going into Kindergarten or 4-Year-Old Program (Pre-K) on Thursday, March 14 from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m.

The event will take place at the Hearnes Elementary Kindergarten's "Orange Door."

Children must turn age five by July 31, 2013 in order to be eligible to enroll for Kindergarten, and must turn age four by July 31, 2013 in order to be eligible to enroll in 4-Year-Old Program.

Parents must be sure to bring the child's Social Security card, birth certificate, and shot record, as well as a proof of residency (like a phone bill). The child must also be present for screening.

Doyle Library Book Fair March 19-26

EAST PRAIRIE, MO (KFVS) - The Doyle Library Book Fair will be March 19 through March 26 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily

Family Night will be March 21 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

The library says cash, credit cards and debit cards will be accepted and they ask that you please allow for tax. They say you can shop online Friday March 15 through Thursday April 4 by clicking here.

No school March 15, March 29-April 1 for East Prairie R-2 School Dist.

EAST PRAIRIE, MO (KFVS) - The East Prairie R-2 School District says there will be no school on March 15 and March 29 through April 1.

According to the school district, March 15 will be a district teacher's meeting and March 29 through April 1 will be Easter Break.

Hearnes Elementary Incentive Store celebrates Dr. Seuss Week

CHARLESTON, MO (KFVS) - On March 1, Hearnes Elementary held its third quarter incentive store alongside a very special reading celebration - "Dr. Seuss Week."

Students participated in a Seuss-themed "Brock Buck Store," with Cat in the Hat decorations and themed items to buy. The store is operated by B.J. Babb, parent liaison. The store also held a book sale with books ranging from $1 to $5.

Hearnes educators are proud to promote reading, and held many activities throughout the week: A breakfast of "green eggs and ham" was provided by Opaa! Food Management; Students voted for their favorite books to win the statewide Mark Twain Literary Award; Ms. Essner's 2nd Grade class correctly guessed how many candies were in the Cat's hat and won prizes.
