Hearnes Elemenatary celebrates 100th Day of School

CHARLESTON, MO (KFVS) - Students at Hearnes Elementary celebrated the "100th day of school" with a variety of activities.

Students made hats and counted by tens, assembled 100s activity books, made glasses in the shape of the number 100, and created necklaces using 100 pieces of cereal.

East Prairie R-2 School Dist.: Parents' Night dates have changed

EAST PRAIRIE, MO (KFVS) - The East Prairie R-2 School District says due to scheduling changes and conflicts, Parents'  Night dates have been changed.

The school district asks that you please disregard the dates and times that were printed on the original informational letter. Parents' Night for Girls Basketball, Boys Basketball, Cheerleaders,  Redsteppers and Band Members will take place on Thursday, January 31. There will be a girls' game at 4 p.m. that day prior to a boys' game.

Recogntion of senior girls basketball players, cheerleaders and band members will take place between the girls/boys games on Thursday, Jan.  31. This will be at approximately 5:30 p.m.

The district asks that you please line up in the band hallway when there are two minutes left in the girls' game. All parents are asked to wear their parent badges on Thursday, Jan. 31.

Hearnes to hold 'Science Family Night' Feb. 7

MISSISSIPPI COUNTY, MO (KFVS) - Come join the fun at Hearnes Elementary's "Science Family Night," featuring scientist Jason Lindsey.

The event will be on Feb. 7 from 5:30 to 7 p.m., held at the Charleston Middle School gym to accommodate a larger audience.

All families in the area are welcome to come and hear our special guest, local scientist Jason Lindsey from "Hooked on Science." Watch as he performs science experiments that are both educational and fun, and some members of the audience will even get to participate.

Participants will enjoy free admission, door prizes, and free refreshments. Older and younger siblings welcome. Open to families of any elementary students, including those at St. Henry and other schools.

5th grade students invited to enter Earth Day 2013 slogan contest

(KFVS) - Missouri’s fifth-grade students are known to have lots of energy, and the Missouri Department of Natural Resources is seeking to tap that energy to provide ideas for the Earth Day 2013 slogan.

The Department of Natural Resources is once again sponsoring a slogan contest for Missouri fifth-grade students. Students are asked to create their slogan ideas based on the theme “Energy Efficiency.” The student submitting the winning entry will be honored at the Earth Day 2013 celebration, April 19 at the Capitol in Jefferson City.

Deadline for the slogan contest is Feb. 28. The winners will be announced in March.

EAST PRAIRIE, MO (KFVS) - The Lil' Stepper Dance Clinic will be presented by Coach Kelle Goodding and the East Prairie Redstepper Dance Team on January 26.

The dance clinic will be in the high school gym at the following times:

  • 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. - Pre-school through 1st grade (Class 1)
  • 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. - 2nd grade through 4th grade (Class 2)
  • 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. - 5th grade through 6th grade (Class 3)

The clinic costs $15 and an addition $10 for a t-shirt is optional. The performance will be Jan. 31 at the high school basketball game. For more information, including how to order a t-shirt, you can click here.

Charleston Middle School honor roll, high honor roll students

CHARLESTON, MO (KFVS) - The Charleston MIddle School's Honor Roll and High Honor Roll for both second quarter and first semester are available.

The Honor Roll consists of students that received a B average with no D's or F's on their report cards and that had good citizenship.

The High Honor Roll consists of students that received all A's on their report cards and that had good citizenship.
